My Journey through the Baby Girl Series
Baby Girl started as a rough draft I wrote several years
ago. After publishing my first book As Snow Falls. I realized I had many other
stories just waiting to be finished. Looking through each, Baby Girl was an
easy choice not because it had the most potential or was more finished than the
others. It wasn’t. I chose it because I already felt a bond with Cleo. A young
girl alone in the world who fights against all odds to survive and she does. Her
strength, tenacity, and intelligence bring her through the worst times and
situations.
At eighteen I married, a year later my oldest daughter was
born, four years later my youngest daughter was born. My marriage was an epic
fail from the start but my girls kept me hanging on. My girls gave me the
strength to get through college and start a career. I have no ill will towards
my ex-husband. He is the father of the two beautiful girls god gave us but he
was a horrible husband who looked to belittle me every chance he got. It was by
sheer will and stubborn determination I made it out of the marriage and with a
college degree.
Fast forward after my divorce I met the man I consider my
first love. A man who took my breath away every time I saw him. A man who taught
me computer tricks, played Halo all summer with me, a man who saw a different
world through my eyes. But he was a stubborn man who refused to get help when
he needed it. He refused my pleas and after nearly five years together he
passed away on New Year’s Day a few short hours after leaving my house. I was
devastated along with the hundreds of people who loved him and still miss him
today. A few things he said will always stick with me, one of them is, ‘I’ve
never met a woman who has your survival skills.’ It is those ingrained survival
skills that Cleo and I share.
He passed away before I published any books. It was his
encouragement in following my dreams that I chose to publish. My journey with
Baby Girl didn’t stop with him. I have had a ton of encouragement and help
along the way. My sister ex-English teacher and Author of the Memoirs of an Ordinary Girl series Terri
Klaes Harper helped me with the first few rounds of editing. Her commentary
kept me laughing as I plugged away at edits and her thoughts to strengthen the
story. Then I met Dawn Lewis who helped me through my more recent edits. She’s
also become a wonderful friend. Author of Manscapes
and Desiree’s Detective Manuela
Cardiga graciously designed all five amazing new covers! From the start Baby
Girl has had an awesome collection of readers that’s continued to grow without
them there wouldn’t be an audience for her story. Baby Girl supporters and
helpers is such a long list I can’t possibly name everyone in this post but I
have been very blessed. The saying goes it
takes a village to raise a child has been the story with my Baby Girl. The
village helped bring Baby Girl to life and raise her so to speak.
Together Cleo and I have forged our way through four short
stories, now combined into a Box Set. She enjoyed the smell of the paperback
pages as much as me. My life has become the life I dreamed. I have an awesome
boyfriend who supports me, puts up with me, and cooks for me! He’s an awesome
guy. It takes sour grapes to find the sweet one. I hope for Cleo to find her
sweet grape amongst the sour ones. If you desire to find out what the future
has in store for her send me a message to any of my social media. Her destiny
is in your hands.
