Author Interview: Shevawn Michelle

1) Tell us about yourself! When did you start writing? Why? Who inspired you?

I am a 39 year old mom of two. I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 20 years and don’t regret a day of it! I started writing about six months ago. Talon’s story kept creeping into my head and so I finally wrote the parts I was getting into a notebook. I wasn’t going to write to publish, but my husband told me if I was spending that much time writing, I was going to publish! He is the reason I did this, he inspired me to push through the fear of putting my work out there to be judged by others.

 2) What is your newest release (Or upcoming)? Tell us a little bit about it.

Talon is about a man who seemingly had it all. One tragic event changed his entire world. People he thought he knew, deserted him. The life he worked so hard for, gone. But fate sometimes has bigger things planned for us, and with Talon, that is true. Fate intervened in the form of a beautiful, caring soul by the name of Kimberly. Their relationship doesn’t come easy as they have to deal with an unexpected surprise. This is more of a friends to lovers story with a little suspense thrown in for good measure.

 3) What is your favorite part about being an author?

My favorite part of being an author is all of the new people I get to meet. I have made some really great author friends, blogger friends, and reader friends. I like being able to share my secret world, the one that exist in my head, with others.

4) What is your least favorite part about being an author?

I think for me, it’s the fear of failure. Always wondering if people like what I write, since I don’t follow what’s considered the normal in today’s indie world. But I can only write what comes to me, and I do that the only way I know how. I don’t want to change who I am just to fit in.

5) Are you an Indie Author, Hybrid, or Traditional? What led you to this choice?

I am an Indie Author. I have been blogging for about a year now, so I have met some wonderful Indie Authors. Being a part of their journey has been a blast, so it was an easy choice for me to want to give someone else that experience on my journey as an Indie Author. Plus, I have all of the control with my stories by self-publishing.

6) Do you have any other hobbies?

Oh yes! I love to fish! My dad practically had us at the lake all the time camping and fishing while I was growing up. Those times are some of the best times of my childhood. The love of that carried over into adulthood. I love camping and campfires with family and friends.

7) Do you work on a schedule? Are you better working under pressure?

I don’t really have a schedule. Since I am also a blogger, that takes up a lot of my time. I usually find time to write in the evening. I don’t handle pressure well at all haha! Writing at night allows me the quiet and free time to just put my thoughts into words.

8) Where do you see yourself in five years as an author?

Wow, let’s see. In my pipe dreams, I would love to be as great as Colleen Hoover or Kelly Elliott, but in reality, I am hoping to have several books out that people love. Either way, I just see me happy with taking the chance on myself and being proud of what I can accomplish.

9) What is the craziest idea that you’ve had?

The craziest idea I have ever had was probably when I was a teen. I stayed over at a friend’s house and we snuck out of her house. Where we wound up is the crazy part….only 4 doors down from MY house! We didn’t get caught but we were lucky!

10) If you could choose any of the ‘realities’ you write to live in, which world would you choose?

I would have to say, between Talon and my current work in progress, Finding Strength, I would choose Talon’s reality. For one, Finding Strength is a tear jerker and there is so much pain Anna’s reality. In Talon, it’s set in Savannah Georgia, a city that I love. The world Talon and Kimberlyn are in, is a world I wish more people lived in. Where it doesn’t matter what you look like, or what someone else looks like, it’s about what is on the inside of them that counts. Kindness goes a long way, and I would like to see more of that in our world.
