Spotlight and Interview: Shauna Allen

Please welcome Shauna Allen to my page! She's celebrating the release of Charlie's Angel!

BLURB: Miserable and unsettled in his predictable, suit-and-tie existence, Charles Benson is finally waking up and realizing a few things. He hates what his life has become.CharliesAngel_Cover

But instead of a change, he finds himself thrust deeper into more of the same . . . only worse.

Or is it?

Tattooed. Pierced. Outspoken. Fiercely sexy.

Jaded after being burned by an unreliable dreamer, Kami Monroe secretly craves the stability Charles represents, even as she rolls her eyes at his uptight monkey suits.  It wouldn’t be a problem except for the unexplainable and explosive chemistry sizzling between them and their heartbreaking baggage.

Add an angel to the mix getting one last shot at Love Detail, and you could have a match made in Heaven . . . if they’d just get the hell out of the way.

Interview:

1) Tell us about yourself! When did you start writing? Why? Who inspired you?

I’ve always tinkered with making up romance stories, beginning with my Barbie doll days, and dabbled in writing a few creative stories and poems.  But I never thought about it seriously until I graduated high school and read my first romance novel.  After that, I began plotting in my head, but it never occurred to me to write those stories down…I honestly don’t think I had the patience or time then with an Air Force husband and three little kids, LOL!  But, it kept niggling me, so eventually, in 2007, I sat down and wrote my first (terrible) manuscript.  Well, I got the bug and it hasn’t stopped biting.  I kept at it, kept practicing, learning and networking, and here I am.  As for inspiration, I can’t pinpoint one person, just the many wonderful authors whose work I love.

2) What is your newest release (Or upcoming)? Tell us a little bit about it.

My latest release is Charlie’s Angel.  It is a spin-off novella from my Cupid Chronicles series with my hero being a character who initially showed up in my first book, Inked by an Angel.  He wasn’t the readers’ favorite character, but he had a small piece of my heart, so I had to let him redeem himself, tell his story and give him his happy-ever-after.

3) What is your favorite part about being an author?

Three answers immediately come to mind: The thrill of seeing a story come together on the page that’s on the movie reel in my mind, the wonderful readers and fans who have supported me and love my books (couldn’t do this without them) and the friends writing has brought me.  I’m sure I’d be lost without them.

4) What is your least favorite part about being an author?

Slogging through the hard parts of writing when it’s just not flowing and you feel so alone.

5) Are you an Indie Author, Hybrid, or Traditional? What lead you to this choice?

Hybrid.  I started out Traditional with a small press publisher, who I love, but I’ve recently taken the dive into self-publishing.  I love having total control over my product from my writing, to the editing, cover design, formatting, pricing, sale venues, etc.  It’s been a lot of work, but a thrill.

6) Do you have any other hobbies?

Well, writing has become more than a hobby as I quit working as a full-time nurse this year, but besides writing, I love reading (of course!), movies, reality singing & dancing shows, and the family just started geocaching, though I’m not sure any of these are really hobbies.  :)

7) Do you work on a schedule? Are you better working under pressure?

I try, but it’s difficult given all that I have on my plate at any given time.  But, I am very self-disciplined and I do work well under pressure.  If I say I’m going to do something, you can bet I’ll do it.  Heck, right now I’m working on three book projects at the same time!

8) Where do you see yourself in five years as an author?

Oh, great question!  And I should know the answer to this…let’s see.  Well, I’m about to launch a new series of YA books under a new pen name, as well as my last Cupid Chronicles book this summer, and I’m planning a new Shauna Allen series to follow that.  Beyond that, who knows?  So, my hope would be that in five years between them all I’ll be sustaining a comfortable life, happiness and joy.  And at least one ranking on a Bestseller list would be wicked cool.

9) What is the craziest idea that you’ve had?

Besides becoming a full-time writer?  That’s not good enough?  LOL.  It seems a ton of what we do in this business is a leap of faith, but I just keep going, one step at a time.

(If you mean story idea, I don’t have one.  I write them as I have them…angels in tattoo studios, ya know?!)

10) If you could chose any of the ‘realities’ you write to live in, which world would you choose?

I would have to choose the world of the Angels I created.  They get to move between Heaven and Earth, live in human vessels with our Earthly experiences, but with Angelic knowledge and cool jobs like prophecy, messaging, crossovers and love detail.  When they reveal themselves, they have awesome wings, they glow…they’re just awesome.
